I unknowingly signed up for a competition in VS called the brainy triathlon. My maths teacher passed down a piece of foldscap a few weeks ago asking those interested to join. From the way he described it, the competition seemed to have nothing to do with maths so I wrote my name down for the word aerobics section. At first I had no clue wat was word aerobics until my maths teacher explained it. He said it was something like charades. So yesterday was the competition. When the competition started, I was so anxious that I had butterflies in my stomach. After all, the teacher in charge didn't even prepare us for this competition. It could be said we were not there to win but just to have fun. There were three people in a team and VS had 9 teams. The only other school that had nine teams was Hwa Chong.
The first section was the Rubik's cube. My team member finished it in about 30 seconds I think. That was quite fast considering that he was under quite a lot of pressure. Next was the word aerobics. Then, I found out that it was just 20 brainteasers instead of charades where you had to act out the phrase. This totally made my job easier but some of the phrases were super tough and not even my sec 3 team member could figure it out. By then, already 30 minutes had past. So we deceided to just fill up some random stuff in the blanks in case we didn't have enough time for the last section. I was quite hesitent about doing that at first but since both my team members wanted to do that , I couldn't really oppose. In fact, it was really lucky I didn't oppose. We finished the last section with only 5 minutes to spare. The last section was a freaking tough sudoku puzzle.
After about an hour, the results were released and I found out my team was the only team that completed the whole process. If the sudoku puzzle was solved wrongly or uncompleted the team would be disqualified. That was damn harsh so at the last few minutes, we had to 'assume' all the digits. (Assuming = making an Ass of u and me) so I didn't like it but it sort of worked out. Anyway my team didn't win and it was HCI that came first. I didn't really expect us to win also but it was good exposure for us since the main problem was unpreparedness and lack of time. It wasn't exactly a waste of time and it was a good experience.
